Low Carb Diet

Low carb diet or diets low in carbohydrates is a diet plan where you substitute carbohydrates of your daily food intake with protein and fat, this way, your total daily consumption of carbohydrates goes down significantly. In the past, our ancestors too, followed such diet plans because they were mostly hunters. Their food contained less carbohydrate and more protein and fat, because they mostly ate meat. This is also perhaps a justifying reason why this kind of diet is good for us, because our ancestors were healthier than us.
When the carbohydrate in your diet goes down, your weight goes down too and thus this kind of diet is also sometimes referred as weight loss diet. If you are obese or facing chronic fatigue, then reducing carbohydrates in your diet and filling it up with protein etc. might be a better choice. Diabetes patients are given reduced carbohydrates in their diet, so such a diet might look promising for them as well. Though, please note that when you reduce carbohydrates in your diet, you actually reduce it and not completely finish it off. Take less amount of bread and rice and fill it up with meat and cheese, that is all there is to do in this diet plan.
There have been studies, both against and in favor of low carb diet and not to forget, there are also plenty of myths regarding it too. However, there is no one such specific diet plan, there are some popular plans which are widely followed but if you are wise enough you can choose or formulate a plan where you reduce a bit of carb, like cake, bread, etc. in your diet and eat protein like meat or even salads like cauliflower and onions instead. This is no rocket science, just read a bit more on it or perhaps gets a book on the topic to know more. Also, I would suggest not to jump on it with the word go, take your time and plan for the next 7 to 10 days of meals. That always helps to stick with the plan for longer than a few days.

Is low carb boring and tasteless? If you are a fan of salads like me then surely you can have plenty of taste and fun but if you hate it then I have a few options for you. First of all, start visiting a few restaurants around your town and order one or more variants of salads with the regular lunch or dinner. That way you will know that salads are not all about onions and cabbage, they can be tasty just like any other food. Am sure a vegetable salad with tuna and meat chunks will be much tastier than your regular bread. Search for some excellent recipes on salads and try preparing them at home and see how they change your life for good.
Low carbohydrates in your diet can cause serious health problems too, however the medical take on this is not so straight forward. Though, a few things about it is clear, like increasing the amount of protein in the diet can put pressure on the kidneys by changing the acid balance of the body. By far the biggest problem with such diets is ketosis, which happens if the carbohydrate intake is greatly reduced. However, one must note that millions of people do follow this diet and they are quite healthy too, so it is left to the individual whether he wants to take up this diet or not. As for me, I would just suggest balancing it properly, our ancestors ate plenty of meat and at the same time they did plenty of exercise like running miles at a time for hunting their food. They were much fitter than us. Just balance your diet as per your lifestyle with a little less carb.
