Sometimes our skin gets itchy during changes in weather. The itching can be just limited to one part or it could be in all parts of the body. Itchy skin can also be accompanied with bumps. In general, itchy skin can be brought about by many things. One reason could by dry skin. When the weather is too cold, the air is too dry making your skin too dry causing it to be itchy. Skin asthma or eczema also brings about itchy skin. Try to moisturize your skin. Use lotions that could bring the moisture back into your skin. Also invest in a humidifier for your house. That way your air would be less dry.
Another reason for itchy skin would be contact dermatitis. This happens when you come into contact with something that would irritate your skin. This usually happens with detergent or some lotion that is not suitable for your skin. Change the soap you use for taking a bath. Use a hypoallergenic soap that is unscented. The scented soaps have more chemicals which might further irritate your skin. For your detergents with your clothes, choose the mild soaps. You might want to use the same detergent people often use to wash baby clothes. They are specially formulated for sensitive skin. If you want to wear perfumes, use the mild ones. Avoid the very strong ones as they might also be irritating for your skin.
Certain metals also make our skin itchy. Some costume jewelries also make the skin irritated especially when the jewelry contains nickel. If you feel that your skin does not react well to such kinds of material, stop wearing earrings of that type.
Aside from all these reasons, another reason for itchy skin could be related to your physiology. Some problems in our body often manifest in the itching of the skin. Some examples of this would be disorders with the metabolism or the endocrine system such as a liver or kidney problem. The presence of cancer, a pregnancy and diseases of the blood all involve the itching of the skin. But not all itching is related to some serious underlying problem. Sometimes it is also related to stress. When the body is under a lot of stress, there are some hormonal changes that bring about itchy skin. When you feel anxious or stressed, take a deep breath and calm down. You tend to get very antsy when under stressed. So remember to take it easy when you are stressed so that your body will not react in any way.
If itching persists even after doing everything you can think of doing, try to take some antihistamine. It will usually help to curb the itching. If not, go see a doctor already. There might be some cause that could only be found if you undergo some tests. You might also want to undergo an allergy test to see what you are allergic to so you can avoid them in the future or at least do something about it.
