During the summer, it is a very common occurrence that we experience prickly heat. This is when we have a rash around our neck due to the sweat and the heat. This rash can be quite itchy or sore at times. One way to turn this around would be to apply calamine lotion that would soothe the rash and lessen the redness. It would also be good to take cold baths as to help regulate the body temperature. Make sure to drink lots of water as well to get rid of the heat inside the body.
Aside from prickly heat, we can also experience acanthosis nigricans. Sometimes this comes out in smooth patches that show up in the neck, armpits and even the groin area. This usually comes about when one is suffering from either Cushing’s disease, obesity, diabetes, mellitus or you have a tumor in your pituitary gland. To be able to stop this rash, you would need to deal with the main illness that you have.
Another problem that brings about an itchy neck would be the skin condition called tinea versicolor. This is caused by yeast around your neck. If you have excessive oiliness coupled with moisture and warmth, your neck will have a rash. This will get worse under extreme weather condition and cause you to itch quite a bit.
When you happen to have an itchy neck rash, here are some easy things you can do at home:
Fill up your tub with cold water. Immerse yourself up to the neck for about 20 minutes. With this, you will definitely feel so much better. Do this twice a day. You will be able to regulate your body temperature especially if the weather is too humid or too hot.
Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with about a drop or two of water. Put the paste on the itchy rash and leave it on for about an hour. Afterwards just rinse it off. You can do this from two to three times a day to help ease the itchiness. Since it is all natural, there is no harm in doing it more than once a day. It will not harm your skin.
You can also trot over to the nearest drugstore and check out over the counter creams that contain the ingredient hydrocortisone. They will be able to lessen the itching and they are not as strong as other steroids. But ask the pharmacist which one they would recommend for you. Different brands have different mixtures so it would be best to discuss your skin condition with the pharmacist.
You can also apply some aloe vera lotion to soothe the skin. it is known that aloe vera has soothing properties. If you apply it on your skin, just leave it on for about 20 to 30 minutes. You can leave it on to dry or wash it off after. But this is not harmful to your skin anyway as it is all natural.
If all methods fail, you should go and see a doctor to get their expert opinion on the matter. Better to know what is happening to your skin rather than wait till the condition gets worse.
